CLIMATE CHANGE TODAY

Aggiornamento: 13 gen 2023

mate change changes the conditions of the Earth. Rising temperatures have been widely documented and today represent a worldwide emergency.

The past 7 years have been the hottest ever.

The hot and dry conditions then led to the outbreak of numerous fires which resulted in an increase in pollution and a reduction in air quality due to the high amount of carbon emissions.

Carbon dioxide concentrations and methane levels have risen to unprecedented values.

THE CONSEQUENCES FOR HUMANS

This type of change does not just have a strong impact on the planet. Mankind also suffers the consequences. One cannot think otherwise.

Some consequences of mankind’s activity might include:

  • Increased asthma due to atmospheric pollution. Since the situation does not seem to be improving, it is expected that climate change will also impact pollen concentrations.

  • Air pollution also leads to skin ageing of the entire body. It creates dryness, fragility, and opacity in the skin.

  • Smog can cause redness, burning, and dry eyes.

  • malattie legate al caldo: andando così tanto ad aumentare le temperature il Heat-related diseases: now that temperatures are continually increasing, the risk of heat stroke, heat cramps, and dehydration (especially among the elderly and children) are becoming more and more likely. Additionally, there are diseases that need heat to spread (e.g. malaria).

  • Waterborne diseases would also become more common.

  • Allergy boom: rising temperatures and rising carbon dioxide levels in the air can have a significant effect on plants and pollen that cause common seasonal allergy symptoms. Some plants such as ragweed have been shown to produce more pollen when exposed to greater quantities of carbon dioxide.

  • Increase in cardiovascular disease: heat can put a strain on the cardiovascular system causing strokes, heart attacks, or other major cardiac events. In addition to the direct problem of heat, the stress caused by the various consequences of climate change also affects cardiovascular problems.

  • More diseases transmitted by animals: according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), diseases transmitted by insects and animals could increase due to climate change.
