THE POWER OF NATURE: RELIEVING COUGHS AND SORE THROATS

Several times a year, coughs and sore throats recur, creating discomfort. Sometimes they are accompanied by more serious illnesses, but most of the time they are the result of a malaise due to the change of season or a flu of bacterial origin.

If the sore throat is mild to medium, there is a tendency not to prescribe drugs either because the abuse of them could prove to be a problem over time, or because the non-emergency situation does not require them. But pain and discomfort remain, so how can the power of nature be harnessed to alleviate them?

REMEDIES FOR SORE THROAT

  • ONIONS AND GARLIC: these are natural antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. Adding them to dishes or trying to create an herbal tea by boiling them in water will help speed healing.

  • LICORICE: chewing a small piece will reduce inflammation in the throat, providing immediate relief.

  • LEMON: squeezed in a bit of warm water, it will diminish pain and ensure proper hydration of the throat and mucous membranes, now more fragile than ever.

  • BALSAMIC HERBS: thyme, rosemary, eucalyptus, used to prepare infusions, give a feeling of freshness and they soothe the burning.

It must be remembered that everything in the body is connected: if the sore throat should not disappear and instead evolve into plaques and cause pain even at the audio-mandibular level with consequent fever and headache, then it is time to contact a doctor who is able to locate the centre of the pathology and act in the most appropriate way possible.

COUGH REMEDIES

Here are some useful remedies for both wet and dry coughs

  • ANISE: balsamic properties, effective for wet coughs

  • MALLOW: anti-inflammatory properties for mucous membranes, excellent for dry coughs

  • POPPY: comparable to codeine, the common cough syrup

  • HONEY AND LEMON: disinfect and soothe the walls of the throat, providing relief in the event of a prickly cough.

First step: remove possible causes.

Obviously, one of the main recommendations in the case of a cough is not to smoke and not to expose oneself, as far as possible, to second-hand smoke: all the carcinogenic substances in cigarettes irritate the throat terribly and, by affecting the bronchi, greatly increase the healing time in the case of a cough.

Step two: medical evaluations.

Beware, however, if coughs and sore throats are an all too familiar experience, then perhaps there could be something wrong with the immune system's defences: watch out for alarm bells that could indicate future inflammation and/or infection of the respiratory tract.

In this case, prevention becomes one of the best weapons at our disposal, and the team of experts at Palazzo Fiuggi knows this very well: that is why they have developed a range of herbal teas with 100% natural ingredients that combine to bring several extraordinary benefits to the body. One among them:

  • IMMUNOSTIMULANT

Herbs: ECHINACEA ROOT, ECHINACEA HERB, ASTRAGALUS, UNCARIA TOMENTOSA, ROSA CANINA, SAMBUCUS, PIPERITE MINT

"All the herbs contained in this herbal tea have excellent antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The presence of astragalus supports the body's tolerance to stress and increases cell growth, metabolism and longevity."

It is therefore ideal for preventing coughs, sore throats and flu and strengthening the organism even after the symptoms have disappeared.
