SLOW LIVING, SLOW FOOD: THE BENEFITS OF "LIVING SLOWLY"

Aggiornamento: 29 nov 2021

In a world where everything is faster and faster, from cellular networks to fast food, "slow living" represents a real act of love for oneself.

WHAT IS "SLOW LIVING?"

With this new term we literally mean “living slowly”.

Slow Living (often also referred to as Slow Life) is a lifestyle focused on balance of inner natural rhythms and about finding a balance between the hectic life of the technological world and the needs of the body.

A new vision

More than a new vision, this approach can be defined as a "return to origins", where listening to your body and knowing your rhythms was the basis of psycho-physical well-being.

WHAT IS SLOW FOOD?

The Slow Food movement was born in Italy and then quickly spread internationally to then give rise to Slow Living, born around the 1980s of the last century.

Slow Food represents an opposite reaction to the phenomenon of "fast food", which spread more or less globally between the late 1800s and early 1900s and then exploded on a large scale in 1961 thanks to Ray Kroc, famous for having made McDonald's the fast food giant it is today.

For those belonging to the “slow” movement, the meal is an important moment of meeting and coexistence, which needs to be lived in serenity and joy, away from the frenzy of everyday life.

ABOUT BENEFITS

Practicing Slow Living does not mean living like a hermit outside the world. Rather, it means focusing on the importance of your time in order to be able to appreciate life.

How many times have you thought “I have so many things to do, but I promise that once everything is finished I will dedicate myself more to myself”?

From the point of view of Slow Life, your well-being comes first: it is a real mindset that allows us to give ourselves the time we need to "recharge" 100%.

HOW TO “SLOW”?

Slow down to live better: this is the must.

To do this, a transformation is also needed in the way we relate to food and the environment, as well as with ourselves.

Here is a list of things you could do in your daily life to live "slow":

  • When it is possible, avoid eating prepackaged foods and try to find time to cook fresh and seasonal foods;

  • Pay attention to moments and daily actions, focusing on what you are doing;

  • Try to have a sustainable and ecological lifestyle, in order to pay attention to the environment around you;

  • Slow living is also about clothing: choosing quality over quantity;

  • Practice Mindfulness, Meditation or Yoga and read books on personal growth.

There are many ways to reach a more balanced life and it is up to each of us to find our own. Take your time. Palazzo Fiuggi offers many possibilities to find yourself in nature and in the peace of Italy.
