NUTRITION: WHAT ARE SUPERFOODS

Superfoods are those foods which, due to their nutritional features and chemical density, are considered a source of countless benefits.

These functional foods or nutraceuticals are divided into two broad categories:

  1. superfruit, which includes foods with antioxidant properties plus guarana and ginseng (which instead possess invigorating properties);

  2. supergrains, i.e. quinoa, amaranth, sesame and teff.

Choosing a healthy and balanced diet can also be important in preventing the onset of some diseases, including cardiovascular ones.

  • dark chocolate; it contains flavonoids, which are effective against memory loss.

  • coffee; it gives mental acuity and it is also a source of antioxidants that help keep the cells of our brain young.

  • broccoli and brassicas or cruciferous trees (cabbage, sprouts, cauliflower); these are rich in vitamin C and folic acid and therefore they help memory, concentration and attention.
